We supply the iron and demand reliable products
In the tough environment of the Kiruna mine, it is important that the encoders that provide information on position and speed are up to the job in order to ensure a problem-free production process.
View of Kiirunavaara. LKAB has been mining iron ore here for more than 100 years.
LKAB has been mining ore in Kiruna ever since the company was established in 1890. Today it is the world's leading producer of refined iron ore products for steel production, and also an increasingly important supplier of mineral products to other industrial sectors.
A tough area of application
Bernt Sundbris is the electrical services planner in the Kiruna mine. His responsibilities include service and maintenance of the mining locomotives, and he can explain how Leine & Linde's encoders are used in the production process:
"A slightly customised variant of the small and robust incremental 861 model is used to gauge the locations and speeds of the ore trains, but products from Leine & Linde can also be found elsewhere down in the mine. The encoders also determine the speeds of the elevators and they are also used on rock hoists, as well as on certain parts of the hauling tracks. Both incremental and absolute encoders are used. This is a tough environment, in terms of vibrations, dirt and dust," explains Bernt.
